    Reaching out...

I've been reading or lurking around here for awhile and am finally posting. I have an appointment with a doc in a few weeks to discuss my drinking. That has made me look at my consumtion a bit more closely and I'm rather disappointed with my self...
My husband has been working out of town M-F most of this year, my two boys are away at college, and I'm at home with a moody 15 year old daughter. My companion has been a bottle of wine and then some.... I've gained weight...and am feeling pretty beat up. I haven't shared my concerns about my drinking with any of my friends...althought I wonder if they notice?
I was initially thinking about Topamax...then read about the Sinclaire Method...the doctor I'm going to see is into Vivitrol...some posters here like the vitamins and suppliments....WHATS A GIRL TO DO? I wish there was one clear direction to "ideally" moderation, but I'm not even hopeful that will work. I even read a youtube video by this guy who said he started his path by promising himself, if he drank he would shave off his eyebrow. The next day he drank so to keep his promise to himself he shaved off his eyebrow! I'm not going that far but I am adapting the concept to makeup. I didn't let myself wear makeup today because I drank last night! As a woman I'm thinking this may be a good motavatior or am I really cracking up

    Hi there Momma!
    Welcome to MWO.
You have lots of questions here which is a good thing.
I dont think there is any one way of beating this, each method has its merits for different people.
The main thing is that you recognize you have a problem and are willing to try to beat it.
For me, it was the support here along with a healthy lifestyle. Longer term, I realised I had to make some more fundamental life changes to keep my sobriety...
    Stick around, read and post.
    Best wishes!

Hi, Momma. That was you on chat last night, right? That's a great way to start and meet people here, as you could probably see. We're silly and serious; ludicrous and loving; crazy and concerned. I can identify with your situation a lot, since Hubs is ALWAYS at work, I live in the country, and even my oldest granddaughter is 16. I'm not sure about the make-up, tho. To me, it's important to begin to feel good about yourself, and that means looking your best and taking care of yourself FOR yourself. Do some things to pamper yourself instead of picking up; schedule activities that get you out of the house; try old hobbies again or do something you've always wanted to do, like college courses or gardening classes, for example. Breaking old habits and making new ones has been the HUGE change for me, and even not staying in front of this screen ALL day, but checking back occasionally. I look forward to talking to again, and want to hear your updates. Welcome!

Thanks Ruby! Great advice...I need to branch out of sitting home with a bottle of wine and the TV. May I ask, did you use any meds or suppliments in your early days and if so did it help? I get small cravings, which I can usually tame, but the bordom...that makes me want to drink!
And yes, I was on the live chat....I didn't even realize I was on for quite a bit of time, but everyone was so nice and welcoming. I just need to figure out this website better
