    Kava Kava - the alcohol alternative

    Just received my batch....from nakamal at home...

    Who the hell needs booze when this South Pacific elixir is around! They have been drinking it for thousands years as a boze alternative.....makes you relaxed, euphoric, sociable....no hangover!

    Whereas Booze, as far as I am concerned, is more evil than Satan after getting a parking ticket

    Anyone interested, lemme know. It's harmless.....it does taste disgusting....but jeez, at least there's an alternative that works. AF made that much easier...

      hey

      Got the root.....otherwise it messes with your liver

      You can either make it by straining it or they have an instant powder which you just add to water or fruit juice....or get the blender out and make a kava cocktail

      Its pretty unpleasant to taste(although you get strangely used to it) and its a nice buzz, pretty similar to a few alcoholic beverages

        Hi Charlie,

        Just a heads up, my doc warned me about kava kava...perhaps she's just being overly cautious, but she said it can have some adverse addictive effects like valium. I took it several years ago for a few days and agree it has quite a kick. Might be different in the US than elsewhere...I heard there are places with kava-kava tea bars elsewhere in the world but I can't remember where.

          I had some extract that I used to take as a sleep aid. I never got a buzz off it, but I only took prob a dropper full in a shot glass in the wee hours. I'm aftaid a nice buzz would set me off on a big downhill slide. Do you worry about that? I don't recall what kind of drinker you were.

            there were some health damaging effects reported here in UK - can't remember what they are - may be worth googling.

                I'd agree with Guitarista.
                I considered replacing alcohol with other drugs (legal and illegal) but it's not a long-term solution.
                Might work in the short-term as a transition if you can take it or leave it, I suppose.

                  endorphins work. free and easy and good for you. well, sort of easy. I'm having a little issue with coffee and I can see why. I wouldn't dare use a replacement now that I KNOW what I'm like with addictions.
