Looking for a little moderation.
Where to start. I've noticed a problem with my drinking years ago, but now that I'm less active due to a change in work it seems to be more noticeable. I drink daily and my poison is wild turkey. I only drink after 9 at night and never want to drink before then. I use it to help wind down and get to sleep. I'm looking at moderation but think that I may have to quit drinking all together as I'm not sure I can moderate. I found this forum via google today so if I keep checking in maybe something will rub off. And this place has cool smilies.:new:Tags: None

Looking for a little moderation.
Hi Turtlewax and welcome. This is a great place, have a look around at the various threads. There are some specifically for those who are looking to moderate. My drinking was also only at night, it went from a glass of wine with my husband over diner to a bottle or a bottle and half on my own. For myself I know that moderation is not an option, however others are able to achieve it. Anyway keep posting and reading, there is loads of information and support here. Glad you found us.While we may not be able to control all that happens to us, we can control what happens inside us.

Looking for a little moderation.
Well I only had 2 beers the first night and drank normally last night and I think i prefered the first night and next morning. But man its a lot different being that awake.
Hart you may have something there with the 30 days AF to start with. I may have to set the posts a little lower to start with, maybe a week. Hell a day would be nice.:H

Looking for a little moderation.
Hi Turtle and welcome. I would think trying a bit of AF time to start would be a really great idea. I am sure things will become much clearer to you in regard to what direction you take, after some AF time under your belt.
Keep safe

Looking for a little moderation.
Hello TW and welcome. I still considered a newbie here, but have been proactive in finding what would work for me. I did try to moderate and failed. Ok, I was able to drink a few every so often for about two weeks and the old abusive pattern re emerged. So, I'm AF now 20 days and doing well. I wish you luck. I hope you find what works for you. Please keeps us posted on your progress!Outside of a dog a book is mans best friend. Inside of a dog its too dark to read

Looking for a little moderation.
TurtleWax,
:welcome:
Modding is difficult, much more difficult than AF for most of us drinkers. However, it is doable and several people here are successful with it.
You might want to download the book and read it. You don't have to follow the entire protocol but it has some good advice.
There is even a forum called Monthly Moderation - I don't pop in there a lot because I have to be very careful reading posts about moderation. Thoughts of moderation has always ended me back into a huge binge. But I really enjoy the people there. They are some of my favorites on the website.
I agree with the 30 days AF as a goal. First off, it will tell you whether you can even begin to do it. If you can't, you might want to reconsider you goal. If you can, you will have that time to gather up a good plan for moderating afterwards.
What I have seen is that most people end up being unable to moderate, so don't be disappointed if you can't. But, as stated, some do and they are very happy with their choice.

Looking for a little moderation.
TurtleWax,
Welcome! Most here say they can't moderate, so that is info to consider. I also have the impression that many also had severe drinking problems, including daily heavy drinking (perhaps a bottle of wine daily and upwards; not sure how much trukey juice you are consuming). Definitely start with at least 30 days AF - to drink moderately, you need to learn how to not drink. The drinking part is easy, stopping is hard. I believe that learning alternate ways to relax (instead of drinking) is critical, as well as better ways to solve the problems that find us in life. I wish you lots of success. Several of us moderate drinkers here post frequently under Long Term Moderation. The MWO book has some useful info, but it makes moderate drinking sound like it happens magically, and I have never met anyone for whom that is true. Most of us still think way too much about drinking. I usually limit my drinking to not more than once weekly, no more than three glasses, and I've been pretty successful with that. But I was not a daily drinker before coming here, just drank too much about once weekly (starting after church on Sunday)! I am so relieved to be in control of my life again, and am grateful to so many here for the support I have received. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Looking for a little moderation.
I've managed one AF day and a few that were moderated. I've been thinking more about why I drink and the triggers. I'm an everyday drinker and its usually half a bottle of WT. I think it's been like that for at least the last 8 years. I do have a problem in getting to sleep of a night but can sleep easy in the day. I only drink late of a night and never want to before that time. I do think if I changed to beer it would cut back the units I consume but would prefer to focus on what drives it. I live alone and that plays a part in it. And I work 12hrs+ a day most of the week running a business.
