mum you are an amazing, inspiring woman and I look forward to getting to know you.
I don;t run...need too, but don't. I work my butt off at a crazy busy job and used the stress excuse to escalate my drinking. Get some sleep and be strong....I love my family more than alcohol.:h

Mum--Her mom's house was damaged and her brother in law is a policeman so he had a hard time with the search and rescue etc. Her sister was in the city center when it occurred and had to walk home over 10 miles but they were very lucky. Youa re inspirational-- I too have agreat hubby, great child, nice home and all that-- I often wonder why in the heck I drink-- hate my weight but this only made it worse. I am trying to go about tackling that in a metodical way just as the drink-- I just DO NOT want another failure!

Hi Mum, and welcome,
I have read on hear that some people have had success with a book by Allen Carr. I have not read it yet but I will be getting it this week. Look on the bottom of the page about" what we are reading".
Greetings from Atlanta. It's called "the easy way to stop drinking". Buffy

Hey Mumofsix
Welcome to this amazing forum. The help you get here is just the best. So many wise people. I'm really into fitness too infact I'm an Instructor. I didn't drink at all for 3 years or more due to my fitness journey - had to pick between being AL or career and career won.
Alen Carr's book, 'The Easy Way to Stop Drinking' and loads of pain was definately the key to the 3 years stop, highly recommend it. However, he does warn that if you have just one drink easyway stops working and at Christmas this year I thought I'd treat myself to a couple of glasses of bubbly.
Fast foward 3 months and I was WORSE than I was before I stopped the last time. My fitness stuff, training, etc. was a total chore and worse than that my integrity was shot to pieces.
I finally admitted to myself and my husband that I have a drinking problem just last week.
So here in Sunny Scotland today the weather has been beautiful (unusually) and I have spent the whole day clearing out clutter from rooms in the house. This has been a job that's been needing done for ages and has been draining my energy. The sun was there for me to sit in if I had wanted to but no I got on with the clear-up. It occurred to me that just a couple of weeks ago I would have downed 2 bottles of wine (YEP, two bottles of wine at a time girl too!) on the Saturday night and Sunday would have been spent, sun or no sun, totally hungover, lying on the couch watching tv and feeling awful with the clutter building up around me!
Get off the misery-go-round, you've got a fabby life and don't let AL strip you off it. Keep checking in here, all the best, xHonour Thyself

Hi mumofsix, you mentioned that your eldest son bought you a bottle of Moet as a thankyou gift, and that makes me wonder if the people closest to you have any notion what you're going through. Do your husband and older kids know that you consider yourself alcoholic and are struggling to beat this? That gift seems an odd one if they even suspect what you're up against. Maybe time to tell some of them so they don't unwittingly do things that undermine your efforts to regain control? (Just a thought, forgive me if that sounds nosey.) You seem to have such insight about how you got to the place you're in, but it sounds like maybe you've shared more with us on this site than the people you love?

Hi there - my husband knows but hes away overseas and my eldest boy doesnt live at home so doesnt know what goes on he hasnt even see me pissed. Believe it or not I dont spend all day every day in a wine bottle and even my kids that are home dont see it as a problem because I'm not a stumbling drunk around them. I confine it to when their in bed. What they see is a really tough 44 year old that runs and runs, is a great mum, who looks after them well and they need a "normal" happy life, mum takes them to work, sports or wherever they need to be and cooks their dinner and looks after all their needs so I hope this makes sense. I did however tell my elder boy NOT to buy me any more wine as I have a marathon to run. You have to remember to people who dont have an alcohol problem dont see buying a bottle of wine as a problem.

I definitely see a difference with sleep--- and I have had sleep issues forever even when not drinking-- but the booze made it worse-- I would fall asleep (pass out) tehn wake frantic at about 2 in the morning and no more sleep. When I don't drink-- much better-- alot of teh not sleeping when I first went off booze was just worrying about it and whether I could do it and beating myslef up for the past. After I stopped that nightly sleep was much better. If your hubby is still in teh ATL-- it has been very warm here-- yesterday it was nearly 90 degrees!

Yeah hubbie still away over there. He went for a run last night he was telling me when he rang this morning and told me he went to some museum or art gallery - but I wasnt really in the mood to hear he was having fun lol. The passing out and then waking at 2 in the morning I can relate to so well. I used to do that too! I'd get say 3 hours sleep and then be wide awake all night. I will get used to the patterns hopefully. Went for a 17k or 1.40 minute run this morning and just got home - to fold all the laundry and hang more out lol so hopefully tonight I'll sleep. Told idiot hubbie that I'd booked for the gold coast marathon in Aussie to be told HE MAY BE AWAY OVER IN AUSSIE AT A CONFERENCE So I said well F@#$! I will go by myself or ask his sister to go with me instead. Told me to email him all the dates so HE can check on HIS calendar. Thats the trouble with a travelling husband - our lives are by phone email and literally bloody braille half the time lol. It'd totally shock him though if I did suddenly become Mrs independent and just go by myself. I dont think I have the "balls" to travel to another country by myself though - even if it is only over the ditch. Hope your days going well.
