Hi airliner and :welcome: I didn't work for an airline but I worked a corporate job and traveled a lot and drank a lot. That escalated to where I eventually was sneaking drinks on the job. My boss figured it out. He circled the human resources people around me, and my choices were to stop, get help, or get fired. I chose to quit my high paying job rather than give up drinking!

And of course when I wasn't working my regular job my drinking escalated even more. Of course I told myself that I was drinking due to the stress, and my evil boss, etc. etc. both before and after I quit the job. The REAL truth is that I'm addicted to alcohol. As hard as it was to face, I had to finally accept that alcohol was the problem, and the only way to get my life straightened out was to stop drinking.

I found the My Way Out web site and downloaded the book from the Health Store. That was around July 1 2007. That helped me get started and now I've been continuously sober since May 22, 2008. (the road was rocky at first!) I also use AA for help and face to face support.

I hope you find what you are looking for here!

Hi airliner. What I really had to do was to put my health first, and figure out what it was going to take to stop drinking. I could not have continued in the type of "corporate job" I had been doing. There were just too many triggers. I don't think I could have made it through an airport on business travel without stopping at the bar. I can do that today, but I needed some time to sober up and build a new and different (WAY BETTER) life first.

I like the idea of just doing what you have to do to take care of your own health. Things really will get better if you can get the AL out of your life.
