    Driving under the influence

I am a 31 year old female living in an alcohol ridden world. I would not say I am an alcoholic, I mainly drink socially once a week or a glass of wine with dinner during the week.
I have never liked how I felt the day after drinking, I have severe anxiety and am sick to my stomach. I have ruined dates because I would drink too much in attempt to conquer my nerves. I have had sexual relations under the i influence that I normally wouldn't have sober. The problem with my once a week social drinking is that I drink an unhealthy level of alcohol, usually driving home drunk. Last night the inevitable happened as I got behind the wheel after much too much to drink and hit another car. Luckily no one was hurt. I feel humiliated and ashamed of myself. If I can't control myself when drinking and put myself and others in danger on the road, then I should not be drinking at all.
I think this is a wake up call to myself. I need to quit drinking all together or learn to have no more than one or two drinks socially. Sometimes I feel drunk after just three!
All my friends drink so it's tough in social situations. I don't want to be a part of it any longer, I honestly I haven't wanted this lifestyle for a long time, I just have no idea how to quit when it is all around me socially.
Any tips on how to be a better person without alcohol...I would be so grateful.

You have a lot to think about! May I welcome you over to the Newbie's nest (always under New Posts....see Last Page for current posts) where you will find folks in ALL stages of their quit! As was suggested to me when I first started here...give us 30 Days AF. if you sail thru those days and have no troubles and hardly think about AL at all, by golly, you may be one of the very lucky ones that just needed to pull the reigns in some. However, if you feel like climbing the walls, and can't get thru the next 15 minutes without caving in and watching the clock as if it were giving out money, well, pull up a twig, you might be one of us. Only you know where you are on this path, but going 30 days without AL is a really great gauge in plotting your course. Also, please check out the Tool Box, the link is in my signature line below, there are 100's of tips and coping skills to help you thru those first challenging days....We are so glad you found us...you have landed in THE best possible place if you are serious about getting your life back. I'm proof! Welcome! Byrdie

            Lots going on there

I got done DUI high high high range driving 150 meters from the pub to my house. Lost my licence for 2 years.

When Becoming sober some people need to make small changes some people need to make massive changes. I have had to “drop” good friends out of my life as they were toxic for me. It sucks butbbeing sober is more important to me.
It may be time for some hard life decisions?
If drinking is interfering with your work, you're probably a heavy drinker. If work is interfering with your drinking, you're probably an alcoholic.

              Hi Ally,
Yes, I have pretty terrible anxiety. I do my best by exercising daily and trying to live a healthy lifestyle, however it still sits with me. When it's worst is when I want to wash it away with alcohol. It isn't how I want to live.

Martye. For some it is about removing the toxic people. I know my friends would be understanding, however being around their drinking habits can be hard. I have always scared myself, when I wake up the next day and realized I drove home and don't even remember driving. This is a wake up call, that's for sure. It's getting there that's the battle.

I wasn't a daily drinker either, but I knew that if I were to continue then eventually I would be so I nipped it in the butt. Took longer then I thought I would when I first tried to quit, but now I am living the good life.

Good on you on tackling this before it got worse.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

I was a habitual drunk driver. I was actually proud of my drunk driving skill. No DUIs or accidents. Police always left me alone even when I was completely trashed. But someone warned me all it takes is a burned-out tailight (which you probably wouldn't even notice on your own) to get you stopped and cause you to get a DUI.

Wow, how ironic. I don't think you heard it from me, but two years ago, I had a burned out taillight, and whamo, a DUI. The start of the end.

You could have just answered the first question no, well it is a tricky question in a way. Greshampd is right, you have to be really careful on answering these questions for your answers will determine your fate of being arrested with DUI.

Drunk driving can ruin your life in a way, well it can affect you in several ways like for example your car insurance, your license, your future job opportunities and so on. I'm always careful when I go out to get a few drinks, what I do is I never bring a car with me in this way I can prevent myself from drunk driving besides I won't drink that much if I am all alone.
