Neddy's Story Day 2 - an overreaction?
Hi Folks, well it's day two for me with no alcohol and I am feeling okay. I had a wee bit of a hissy fit when I came home and I don't know if I overreacted. I had some beer and some wine left in the house and I decided to pour it down the sink. Fair enough, I hear you say. After that, though, when I was washing up and putting dishes away, I put my hand on a large wine glass and immediately felt the urge to drink. My answer was to take all my glasses outside and put them in the recycling. I know that I could drink from a mug or cup or even straight from the bottle but the desire when I just touched the glass was quite powerful. Has anyone else done something similar?"I used to be on the guest list, but now I'm on the nest list!"

Neddy's Story Day 2 - an overreaction?
I had a favorite drinking cup. It was a plastic tumbler. I DID throw it out, I didn't drink out of wine glasses unless I was out in public. I may not be the best to give advice here since I also drank it out of a hairspray bottle!!!
I have great appreciation for dishes and glass....I'd hate to see you throw wonderful stems away....can you stash them somewhere in a closet? Things will improve greatly once you gain confidence. You'll learn to hate what was in the glass, maybe not so much the glass itself. GREAT job on Day 2!!! Byrdie

Neddy, I just noticed you are in Scotland, so am I! As for the glasses, like byrdlady, I love nice glassware, but at this stage getting and staying sober is the most important thing and if it helps you to achieve that I wouldn't worry about it. I guess the strangest things trigger urges. Maybe the familiar feel of the glass subconsciously rang a wee alarm bell somewhere. Glad you are feeling okay on day 2, well done!Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it! ~ Goethe

Thanks for the encouragement folks. Day 2 is coming to a close and soon heading for bed. Hopefully a good night's sleep awaits and I will wake up ready to conquer day three! Didn't realise you were from Scotland Halo. I'm in sunny Glasgow. Well, it's sunny for once; most summers are terrible."I used to be on the guest list, but now I'm on the nest list!"

Neddy's Story Day 2 - an overreaction?
Have you considered wrapping them in newspaper and storing them for now?
We are creatures of habit, and there is nothing silly about "protecting your quit". Throwing them away is a waste and perhaps a bit of "drama", storing them out of sight is perfectly reasonable. We associate drinking with places, times, paraphernalia, and instead of needlessly testing our resolve, we might want to make it as easy as possible.
I still avoid the tumblers I used to drink out of. I also avoided coca cola, as that always went with the alcohol. In my mind they both had much stronger connotations than, say, whisky advertisements. I also avoided being in my office at 4 PM as that was "the signal".
Good luck, nothing is silly if it makes your life a little easier.
