    Just starting

    Hi All,

I just signed up. I found this site while searching through various alcohol support groups online. This one looked more approachable due to the fact that if I did a cold turkey on my drinking, I would probably fall apart. I read some of your posts and like the idea people are getting acknowleged for cuting down instead of being scolded for slipping. This is my first day without a drink in probably 20 or so years. I'm scared to death and am going to try really hard not to have a drink when I get home from work. If I can't do it, I'm going to try and only have one. I'm hoping I can make some new friends here and get the support I need while I'm making this drastic but needed change in my life.:thanks: Kat5

    Kat,

Make some plans right now of what you are going to do when you get home--cook a fantastic meal, clean a closet, take a bubble bath...keep yourself fully occupied. Log on here! Logging on here has kept me sober many a nights. Boredom and stress are my two common excuses for drinking. Plan your evening until bedtime. Go to bed early. Think about how great you are going to feel when you wake up in the morning and got through an evening without caving in and drinking. Good luck and welcome!

      Hi Kat and :welcome:

It's so easy to pass a few hours just reading everyone's posts. And each time you log on you'll know that someone, somewhere in the world, is in exactly the same situation ... hoping to cut down or cut out their booze consumption.

Look forward to seeing you around.

        Good Luck Kat,
Cold Turkey was my choice after 35yrs of Excuses, not to say Im cured but the pain is worth it, I recommend picking a day, a time and make sure you have a Calendar, and then go for it...........fairly soon you'll be looking up at the sky instead of down at your feet, for me this is day 126 AF, and it's still getting better, try it ????

          Hi Kat5,
Welcome! We are all in the same boat here. We want the demon alcohol to go away and not have this big hold over us...I have abstained (9 months) several times and I was also able to moderate my drinking---until another stressor shows up and I drink excessively....I still have to figure out how to deal with stress better.
Anyway, we all understand your plight. Good luck with your personal goals!
