    A Painted House

I finished "A Painted House" by John Grisham. It reminds me a lot of "Grapes of Wrath" by Steinbeck, but it's all first person and very well told.

It is *not* recovery oriented. That's cool by me. If I read one more "redemption" story from an addict/alcoholic, I think I shall puke.

Next up is Follett's "Pillars of the Earth." Been trying for a year or so to get on board with it. Ain't happening so far.

I read A Painted House some time ago. I enjoyed it. Make Follett happen you won't regret it. Once you finish, you'll immediately want to purchase World Without End. Enjoy!!!

I never got around to reading "Pillars" but found the mini-series on Netflix. I know that movie production generally doesn't do justice - and I have NOT read the novel - but the series was stunning. It was hard to watch at times, it was harsh, it was raw, it was beautiful - it was stunning! My husband and I couldn't take our eyes off it and had to keep pausing it to discuss all the complicated stuff that was going on and how we felt about it and what it all meant. I'm going to read Follett's other two novels now because I know how much is lost when you convert a talented author's text to screen.

Edited to add: I haven't read "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" but the "Girl Who Played with Fire" by the same author is on my desk.

"Pillars of the Earth "- I could not put that down- I read that a few years ago. I didn't know they made a mini-series from it-I must check that out and see if it's available on-line. Has anyone read the "Outlander " series? " Outlander" is a terrific book by Diana Gabaldon- another one I could not put down.
