    kindle, nook etc...

do you have one or want one? how do you like it?
i have a kindle and absolutely love it. i didn't think i would like it as i am quite the bibliophile, but it is so awesome to have books at the touch of a button. i live in a very isolated place and don't have access to a bookstore, so it is a good investment for me. my husband and i were joking that if we build bookshelves, all that will be on them is a kindle.
of course i have hundreds of old books and will definitely buy some i can't live without!

if you have eye/vision problems they are nice because you can change the font size as well. the only thing i wish it had was a backlight so i could read all night without waking my old man!

Fraid I'm a 'kindlephobe'! I work in a library and couldn't imagine my life without books! I'm sure like all new technology I'll be brought 'screaming and kicking' into the 21st century tho!!

      kindle, nook etc...

Hi there - I have a Nook and also love it - some books I would never want on my Nook- I bought the biography of the Queen mum - and that goes on my book shelf - but books just as a quick read are perfect for the nook - also with the Nook, you can get books from the local library too, and anywhere that does ePub books - with Kindle you can only get books from Amazon. I did a lot of research and although Kindle is $10 cheaper decided that in the long run, Nook was much better - it has a replaceable battery - you have to send the Kindle back (which means being without it for a couple of weeks) plus it is expensive to do (so I have heard), whereas the nook battery is about $25.00 and you can get them at Barnes & Noble. There are other reasons I ended up getting the Nook over the Kindle - I do like having the book in my hand but with a cover on the nook it is as good. The thing is, if it was back lit, then the battery life would be worse, also you would get eye strain too - one of the reasons they aren't back lit - they are supposed to be - a book! I use my bedside light or a book light with mine. Nook is now coming out with a Nook Color but I think I will just stick with the one I have.

I recently purchased the kobo e-reader from Borders. I was quite apprehensive at first but have grown to like it. I use it primarily when I travel. It is Wifi so I do not have to schlep my LT if I want to download. However, there is NOTHING that replaces the thrill and joy of holding a printed book!

Peace--I use Audible.com and listen to books on my cheapo MP3 player. There are pros and cons to this like if I fall asleep, I've totally lost my place. But I love it when I'm driving, working or doing housework.
I have been interested in the Kindle though, I think Amazon has a way bigger selection of books than Audible, which is $15 a month.
                    Thanks for starting this thread.

You can only get books from Amazon if you have the Kindle - you can get books from anywhere if you have a Nook (except Amazon). If you fall asleep reading, it saves your place too..... Local libraries support the ePub system which the nook has -again, Kindle doesn't. Oney - I still love a book too, but the Nook is so handy at times - I still buy books and have bookshelves full but like my Nook. not sure if the Nook would work in UK - go to bn.com and see. All I know is that with the Nook you have far more places to get books from than with the Kindle. You can search on-line for any ePub books and download them to a nook - not so with a Kindle.

I love my Kindle! It is great for travel as I travel quite a bit for work and it is also very easy to read in bead with my Kindle! I am also a book lover and I still buy books and use the library. To me having my Kindle does not mean having to make a choice "Between" traditional paper books or digital books, it simply gives me a choice!

Oh...and can we say Instant Gratification!! I love being able to downoad a book in less than a minute and get started reading right away!

                              I have a new Sony E-book reader.
I'm still learning to use it but have finished one book....Imperfect Birds by Anne Lamont
Still not sure if I'm going to love it though.
