Any help from Irish MWOers about how to pronounce Eilis? It doesn't have any accents on in the book so I'm told it would be Eye-leesh but if it had a fada somewhere (?) it would be Aye-leesh. I'd like to know the sound of the word when I'm reading it!

Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
Set in Ireland in the 1950s. A young woman, Eilis, can't find work and her sister arranges for her to emigrate to New York. I'm only about a third in but really enjoying it. So far she's living in a boarding house in Brooklyn with other young women, working in a department store and missing her home and family.
