The Woman Who Walked Into Doors - Roddy Doyle

I picked this up at the library today. I read it a couple of years ago and was impressed, however I was drinking at the time and in denial. I'm looking forward to reading it with a sober eye. Anyone else read it?

I read it a number of years ago BH. I really enjoyed it. I think (we've already had this conversation about Doc Martin) that Elaine C Smith did a monologue based on it on the TV at one point. I might be imagining that though! Imagining, hallucinating, tripping, dreaming, call it what you will even the rantings of a madman!

NS, K9, let me know what you think when you get it.

Neddy, I kind of knew when I was typing this post that you would have read this. Have you read Doyle's other stuff? The last time I read it I remember being very impressed that a man had managed to write it. I don't mean that in a condescending way, just that Paula was a very real character and the book was written as her story in her words. He really pulled it off, as I remember. I also remember crying a good bit while reading it!

I am going to start on it tonight, hopefully

I really hope you like it. I will have it finished by tonight. I remember crying the first time I read it, but this time there was proper blubbering at some points. It's not a depressing book though, just very real. Enjoy!

Was she drinking - or beaten by her husband.
                      Can't remember
Roddy Doyle was very big over here in the 80's - he's from Dublin and very talented...
                      The Snapper -is hilarious !

Got it today and will be starting it tonight! I love to read in the bathtub but since most books recently have been on my iPad, it hasn't seemed like a very good idea ...!

This one will work, though! In the bad old days, I would also have had a glass of wine. Since it is so darn chilly here, perhaps tonight it will be a cup of tea!

Both, Satz. You need to read it again! I read The Snapper, and The Van, also, who could forget The commitments?

NS, I used to have a glass of wine and a read in the bath too, along with scented candles etc. Yeah, it was so relaxing I ended up blooming well comatose on more than one occasion! Hope you enjoy the book

                            Oh I will :thanks:
My drinking having escalated - then admitting there was a problem - to getting sober since I read the book way back.
So - will now be reading from a totally different place !

I'm on about page 120 or so. Can't wait until tomorrow when I can just lounge in bed with my book and a cup of coffee. I am sure I will finish it tomorrow. I also got another book by him called Paddy Clarke HA HA HA. I have tons of good books right now...better get busy reading!
